Memphis basketball head coach Penny Hardaway was effusive in his praise of David Jones after the Tigers' 84-79 victory over No. 20 Arkansas in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Jones led the team with a career-high 36 points and five steals, earning him the admiration of his coach.

"He's definitely one of the best players to come through Memphis for sure," Hardaway said of Jones.

Jones' performance was a standout, shooting 10 for 14 from the field, including 4 of 8 from 3-point range, and making 12 of 14 free throws. His 36 points surpassed his previous career-high of 33, which he set against Louisville while playing for DePaul in 2021.

Jones also became the second Memphis basketball player since 2010 to record at least 34 points and four steals in a game, joining Jeremiah Martin.

Memphis has a rich history of producing great basketball players, including Hardaway, Derrick Rose, Keith Lee, Lorenzen Wright, and Larry Finch. For Hardaway to mention Jones alongside such legendary figures is a significant honor, and it also reflects the high expectations that Hardaway has for Jones.
